Honoring Jean-Christophe Maillot
This evening the students of the Princess Grace Dance Academy, under the direction of Luca Masala, took the stage of the Salle Garnier of the Opera of Monte-Carlo to honour Jean-Christophe Maillot. It was an imaginary voyage through Maillot’s many ballet creations through his 20 years as Artistic Director and Choreographer of the Ballets of Monte-Carlo, executed with mastery and passion by the talented young dancers from all the class levels at the Academy. Their professors were among the audience, nervous with excitement and proud of their students who proved the long hours of hard work had materialized into a superb performance to the loud ovation of the public.
An ovation from the public and the Royal Box
Maillot was enjoying the performance from the Prince’s Box accompanied by HRH Princess Caroline of Hanover, her daughter Princess Alexandra, and Maillot’s companion principal dancer Bernice Coppieters who has been his muse and inspired him to create his most memorable ballet characters. At the curtain call he got on the stage with Luca Masala to join the students. It was the best present Maillot could have ever dreamed of.
