The elite meets at Amber Lounge during the Monte-Carlo Grand Prix F1

Amber Lounge is the place to be

Amber Lounge enters its 11th year organizing the most enchanting F1 parties in four locations around the world. Regarded as one of the most exclusive clubs in the planet, it will once again ignite the Principality. With VIP guests mingling with F1 drivers and tops stars, it is no doubt the place to be and be seen during the upcoming 72nd Monte-Carlo Grand Prix scheduled during May 22-25. Monaco, located between the mountains and the blue waters of the Mediterranean, provides the perfect backdrop for this legendary international F1 competition, with exclusive parties in an electrical atmosphere, luring the most beautiful people, the rich and the famous. And you will meet all of them at Amber Lounge during three nights of exceptional partying. Having celebrated Amber Lounge’s 10th anniversary last year, Sonia Irvine (on the photo on the left with her brother ex-F1 driver Eddie Irvine) and her highly professional team will inaugurate its second decade by launching the new Friday night concept U*UNITE encompassing fashion, charity auction, gourmet dining and clubbing under one roof to the delight of their illustrious guests.

U*NITE a winning concept

Amber Lounge gives the red carpet treatment to all its guests plus the privilege to partake with drivers, actors, artists, athletes, models and members of the jet set. You will discover the new Friday night concept branded U*NITE on May 23rd at 18:30 at Le Meridien Beach Plaza Hotel. Starting with a Welcome Cocktail followed by a glamorous Fashion Show by the internationally acclaimed fantastic duo of Odabash & Macdonald, featuring attractive models, and handsome drivers moving from the racetrack to the catwalk. After the chic fashion show, a lavish dinner concocted by Michelin star chef Michael Caines will continue to awaken the senses, adding to the wonderful experience. And because Amber Lounge promoters believe that luxury and glamour marry perfectly with social responsibility, there will be a charity auction where everybody will have the chance to give back to a worthy cause. The name of the philanthropic association had not yet been revealed by the time we went to press. More than Euro 3.7 millions has been raised up to this date for charity organizations such as Special Olympics, The Elton John AIDS Foundation and the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund. Amber Lounge really cares!

When prompted to define the U*UNITE new idea, Sonia Irvine said: “We created Amber Lounge as a place to unite all of the F1 teams, motorsport fraternity and VIP’s in a luxurious environment. The extension to Amber Lounge U*NITE was natural…Uniting Fashion, Dining, Charity and the Club under one roof as only Amber Lounge can do it.”

The festivities will continue during the extravagant weekend on Saturday 24 and Sunday 25, with a carefully constructed blend of luxurious dining, top class music, notorious live performances and partying till the wee hours of the morning, when the first rays of the sun caress the horizon. Three days and nights living the high life!

Odabash & Macdonald fashion’s celebrity duet

Julien Macdonald OBE (Order of the British Empire), better known as JMac, is a Welsh fashion designer who has appeared as judge on the TV program Britain & Ireland’s Next Top Model with supermodel Elle Macpherson, as well as Project Catwalk. In June 2006 he was awarded and OBE in the Queen’s birthday Honors for services to fashion. His first love was dancing but a course at Cardiff Art College revealed his talent for fabric design and from then on he has been moving onwards and upwards in his successful and rather controversial career because he dares to go the extra mile. JMac’s ability to design show-stopping, figure-hugging, revealing pieces is clearly appreciated by the rich and famous; Joely Richardson, Danii Minogue, Gery Halliwell, Carmen Electra, Naomi Campbell, Beyonce, Bonnie Tyler, Selena Gomez. His creations have a true star quality. At the recent London Fashion week the catwalk master showed slicked-back-hair models in very high heels, not a lot of underwear under the super tight dresses, with angel wings spread across the back and chest perfect for jet-set Queens, definitely only for women in top shape.

The other side of the magic pair is Melissa Odabash, an American fashion designer and former swimwear model based in London, who lived and worked in Italy for many years. She has appeared on many TV shows from mentoring models in British & Ireland Next Top Model to being a worldwide network correspondent for France 24 during the Royal Wedding and using her fashion expertise in Strictly Come Dancing it Takes Two. She is well known for her beachwear designs and Vogue described her collection as being the “Ferraris of swimwear”. Odabash is the ultimate luxury holiday lifestyle brand and her exotic, attractive and rather sensual designs are indispensable for the sophisticated global traveler. Her pieces have everlasting style with use of top quality fabrics to make women feel their best no matter her body type. She continues to be the designer of choice by top celebrities during their flamboyant holiday escapades; the likes of Kate Moss, Cindy Crawford, Rhianna, Lady Gaga, Heidi Klum, Chery Cole, Beyonce to name just a few.  As an extension of her luxury collection Odabash collaborates with good friend JMac, and together they have produced two capsule collections stretching the swimwear boundaries creating bold and unique signature pieces that Amber Lounge is bringing exclusively to its privileged guests.

No wonder why they call it Amber

I was puzzled over the reason behind the name Amber Lounge, so I researched and learned that Amber is a fossilized tree resin appreciated for its color and natural beauty. It is said to promote a sunny, carefree and optimistic attitude, enhances motivation, drive and stimulates happiness. Believed to increase strength and attract success, amber has a soothing effect on the body. The classical name for amber was electrum, connected to a term for the “beaming sun”. According to the myth, when Phaeton son of Helios and God of the Sun was killed, his mourning sisters became poplars, and their tears became the origin electron, amber. Amber occurs in a range of different colors, with yellow-orange-brown usually the most common, but can range from a whitish color through a pale lemon yellow, to brown and almost black.  Other atypical colors include red, green, and the most rare is blue that is highly sought after with only about 100 kg is found per year that makes it valuable and ultra expensive.

Sonia Irvine put it beautifully “Amber is associated with warmth and light and has strong spiritual properties that’s how I like to think of Amber Lounge…We exude a natural warmth to all our guests, we aspire to be a force to follow and as described by guests and experience not to be missed.”
