Equality for Women is Progress for All
International Women’s Day (IWS) The movement started in the United States in the early 1900’s and then rolled over to Europe and the rest of the world. In different regions the focus of the celebrations ranges from respect, appreciation and love towards women to women’s economic, political and social achievements. Started as a Socialist political event, it integrated in the culture of many countries and in some regions it lost its political flavor and became an occasion for men to express their love for women. Elsewhere the political and human rights theme designated by the United Nations runs strong, and political and social awareness of the struggle of women worldwide are brought out and examined in a hopeful manner. In some countries it is even an official Holiday. International Women’s Day is not about asserting the superiority of one gender over the other. It is not about petty quarrels about who gets to do the dishes after dinner. Whether you are a woman or man, you must know that International Women’s Day celebrates your emancipation. Had it not been for women’s liberation, freethinking would be just impossible. An educated woman can raise intelligent children, which in turn creates a self-supporting society. Let’s celebrate the spirit of femininity, man and woman forever together! The United Nations instituted International Women’s Day to commemorate the contribution of women in the socio-political sphere as well as in global peace and security. The UN theme for IWD 2014 summarizes the objectives in one phrase: « Equality for Women is Progress for All. »
« We can work together for a better world with men and women of goodwill, those who radiate the intrinsic goodness of humankind. » Wangari Maathai
“The story of women’s struggle for equality belongs to no single feminist nor to any one organization but to the collective efforts of all who care about human rights” Gloria Steinem
For women everywhere in the world here is a bouquet of roses, love and respect! And for all the men who love women!
