Djokovic and Federer survived to face each, Ferrer dispatched Nadal to confront Wawrinka

Exciting quarterfinal matches that went from morning to late in the evening

It was a day full of emotions and tight matches during the quarterfinals at the Masters in Monte-Carlo. Starting with David Ferrer defeating World no. 1 countryman Rafael Nadal in two sets, and became just the third player in 11 years to defeat Rafa. Wawrinka battled with Canadian Milos Raonic who had a great start but the Swiss won the opening set in the tiebreak and played flawlesly to take the second. Wawrinka will meet David Ferrer in the semis. French Jo-Wilfred Tsonga challenged World no. 4 Roger Federer by winning the first set playing aggressively, but could not close the second set that went to Federer in the tie break and the Swiss then went on to take the third for a victory in 2 hours and 26 minutes. Defending champion World no. 2 Serb Novak Djokovic really struggled against Spaniard Guillermo Garcia-Lopez who is no. 38 in the singles ranking but won the opening set playing beautifully but  failed to continue his winning streak by loosing the second and third set during a long match played under artificial light. The Spaniard had previously beaten Dolgopolov in two sets and Tomas Berdych in three, but was stopped by Nole who made many unforced errors but showed he was in top physical form and prevailed for a fifth victory in as many career matchups with Garcia Lopez. Djokovic will play against Federer in the semis for a match that will surely be worthy of a final.
