Sustainable development is the Principality’s top priority
Yesterday was the launching of Mobee 100% electric car-pooling, in partnership with SODETREL a branch of EDF and the Principality’s Government, in the presence of HSH Prince Albert, HE Michel Roger Minister of State, and the CEO’s of EDF and Renault. Starting in July there will be a fleet of 15 Renault Twizy carrying the Monegasque colors available for rent 24/24h by residents and tourists alike, with the number eventually increasing to 50 cars by 2016.
How does it work?
The Twizy’s will be available in different areas of the Principality and the users will be able to locate them via Internet or a smart phone application and reserve the closest vehicle. It is a free-floating system that will allow the user to return the vehicle no matter where in the Principality, without being obliged to return it to any specific location. The subscriber will be able to park their Twizy free of charge in the parking for two or four-wheeled vehicles, and use the four participating public parking: Fontvieille Commercial Center, Casino, Larvotto and Visitation, with additional public parking locations to be added in the future.
Mobee presents several practical advantages while contributing to the development of sustainable mobility in the Principality. The rental cost is also an added benefit, as the subscriber will avoid having to buy a vehicle and pay for insurance or maintenance.

Reducing the negative impact of automobile circulation
Electric car-sharing is another smart initiative towards the main goal of improving traffic circulation, and ads to the efforts of promoting the utilization of public transportation and encouraging the use of vehicles with lower emissions of Carbone Dioxide. The main goal is to reduce the negative impact of automobile circulation, traffic, air quality, noise, etc., by proposing alternatives ways of transportation for a better quality of life in the Principality.
Since 1994 the Monegasque Government supports the use of cleaner means of transportation by offering a prime of 30% over the sale price for electric vehicles. Those vehicles also benefit from free annual certification, free parking in the streets of Monaco and recharging on almost 450 dedicated terminals on the roads and public parking. Let’s not forget that the majority of the daily transfers in the Principality are on foot, thanks to a useful network of mechanical connections like elevators, escalators and mechanical stairs. Furthermore, the Monaco Bus Company and the Government have already developed a service of electric bicycles that counts today with 50 bikes and 10 recharging stations. A service that in the near future will cover new stations in different neighborhoods.
