Victory takes Monaco out of the relegation zone
It was a perfect Sunday afternoon to watch football, especially when Monaco beat Guingamp kick starting their season on a positive note and getting out of the relegation zone to a more comfortable 16th position. It was the Moroccan midfielder Nabil Dirar (7) who scored at the 38th minute of the first period after a free kick from the Portuguese midfielder Joao Moutinho (8). The Monegasques had a total of 19 shots on goal so we can say there were several missed opportunities plus a penalty that the referee did not awarded to Moutinho who received a yellow card instead for what he considered a simulation. The fans reacted furiously to what they considered an unfair decision by booing the referee. It is a long way to the top but the Red and Whites are clearly on their way.
Next match for Monaco will be away against Montpellier on Wednesday, September 24 followed by the Derby on Saturday, September 27 when Monaco will do the honors to receive OGC Nice at home.
