42 two cannons shot, 21 for each child
On Wednesday, December 10, 2014, 42 cannon shots were fired from Fort Antoine, and boats in the harbor blew their horns announcing the arrival of the royal twins. HSH Princess Charlene had a girl first at 17:04, named Gabriella Therese Marie, and a boy came just 2 minutes after, named Jacques Honore Rainier who will be the Principality’s future ruler of the 700-year-old House of Grilmaldi following Monaco’s laws of succession, thus granting the continuity of the dynasty. Crown Prince Jacques will receive the title of Marquis de Baux, while his sister Princess Gabriella will be known as the Countess of Carlades.

Donations instead of gifts
Monegasques started flocking to the Palace with offerings for the new babies. Prince Albert and Princess Charlene have kindly asked for donations rather than gifts that will benefit the charities of their choice.
