Monaco offered themselves the OM as a 90th anniversary gift!

Monaco 1 – Olympic Marseille 0 – Vamos Monaco!

This past Sunday, December 14, 2014, the AS Monaco celebrated the 90th anniversary of the club honoring around 50 of their ex-football players. Prince Albert came down to the field to greet each of the men from another era, one by one with the gentleness that characterizes him. The ceremonial kick off was bestowed to four exceptional players: Amoros, Thuram, Giuly and Barthez.

And the icing on the “anniversary” cake was Monaco’s unexpected victory over leader Olympic Marseille. In spite of missing key players Dimitar Berbatov, Ricardo Carvalho, Kurzawa and Kondogbia, Portuguese coach Leonardo Jardim came up with a winning line up, and the job got done by countryman midfielder Bernardo Silva, who opened the score at 68 minutes sealing a very important victory for the home team. Monaco got up the ladder to the 6th position with a total of 29 points. There was a lot to celebrate yesterday evening!

Monaco faces Arsenal in Champions League 8th round

As for the Champions League draw, Monaco will face Arsenal on English turf for the  8th round of the Champions League on Wednesday, February 25, 2015, and they will receive the Gunners at home on Tuesday, March 17. Monaco will be playing Arsenal for the first time in this top European competition. But let’s not forget that Monaco beat Arsenal with a goal from Falcao last August during the Emirates Cup. Arsene Wegner, who coached the AS Monaco from 1987 to 1994, will meet them again at Stade Louis II, 20 years later. He surely believes they got lucky in the draw, but the Red and Whites are full of surprises as OM’s coach Argentine Marcelo Bielsa can sadly testify.
