Honouring the work of women everywhere
Monday, May 10, 2015, marked the 4th edition of the Woman of the Year in Monaco, created and presided by Italian journalist Cinzia Colman, under the patronage of HSH Prince Albert II, and having as HSH Princess Charlene as Honorary President. The main prize went to journalist and sailor Catherine Chabaud from France, for her incredible sports career and her involvement towards the protection of the environment, and will be the ambassador of the platform “Oceans and Climate” at the United Nations Climate Change Conference Global Warming and Climate Change in Paris, France, at the end of 2015. She is also leading the project “Voilier du Futur” or Sailing Ship of the Future. Chabaud was the first woman to complete a solo navigation of the globe without any stops during the third edition of the Vendee Globe race in 1996-19976. Furthermore, she made 14 crossings of the Atlantic Ocean, four of them solo, that granted her to be referred as the woman of the sea. She will add this trophy to the one she had already received as Woman of the Year Award also in Monaco. HSH Prince Albert gave a private audience to Catherine Chabaud, Ornella Barra and Cinzia Colman, before the event that he was not able to attend.
Colman and the Jury Committee also awarded Jacqueline Gautier Debernardi, President of the Monegasque Association for Nature Protection. The fashion designer Agnès b., who opened her first shop in Paris in 1975, received a special prize for recovering the schooner Antarctica that was renamed Tara, and creating a non-profit organization dedicated to research, real scientific laboratory for the study of the oceans.
This event that showcases and demonstrates the value of the work of women in different fields, has been sponsored from its inception by the society Walgreens Alliance Boots, at the forefront of pharmaceutical health and wellness worldwide. The two founders, Ornella Barra, Executive Vice-President, and Stefano Pessina, President, were present at he dinner and prize ceremony.
