Star Team defeated the F1 drivers in charity football match – Prince Albert and Paris Hilton in attendance

Raising funds for the Novak Djokovic Foundation for children

Like every year before the anticipated Grand Prix F1 of Monte-Carlo, drivers and other celebrities gathered at Stade Louis II, for the traditional charity football match organised by the Star Team for the Children Association, created by Mauro Serra in 1993, that since its inception has raised more than 3.000.000 Euros to help build schools, medical cabinets and purchase necessary hospital equipment in underprivileged areas of the world. This time around the proceeds will benefit the Novak Djokovic Foundation to help children in the areas of education, parenting and sports.

The spectators had the pleasure to watch an exciting match between the Star Team and the F1 Drivers team, composed of many  celebrities and former and present favorite sports stars, like Novak Djokovic, Louis Ducruet, Marco Simone, Grigor Dimitrov, Riccardo Patrese, Carlos Sainz, Felipe Massa, Giancarlo Fisichella, Esteban Gutierrez, Sergio Perez, Kristian Ghedina and more, with the former coach of the AS Monaco Claudio Ranieri officiating the game. Prince Albert, who belongs to the Star Team did not play this time but came to support his teammates from the sideline. The Star Team claimed victory over the F1 drivers with a final score of 3-2, thanks to goals from tennis pro Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov (29’) and former AS Monaco coach Marco Simone (39’, 44’) for the Star team, Engel (57’) and Damini (90’) for the pilots. But the real winners were the children! Talented sculptor Osvaldo Moi created the beautiful wooden twin trophies as he does every year. Bravo!

Paris Hilton guest of honour

Nothing to do with football, but attracting lots of attention, was the visit during half time of the American socialite, TV personality, model, actress and DJ turned singer, Paris Hilton. No, she did not play football, specially when she came dressed in a glittery long dress with a train and sporting very high heels! Photographers were delighted and she also signed autographs while her latest hit “High Off My Love” was playing in the background. The diva is attending  the Cannes Film Festival and took time off from her busy schedule to come and support the Start Team for the Children. Good for Paris!
