Association Ars Antonina presents piano virtuoso
Young Chinese prodigy, Ji Liu, who won many international awards and prizes, will debut in Monaco with a piano recital organized by the Association Ars Antonina at the Théâtre des Variétés, on Wednesday, September 30, 2015 at 8:00pm.
This young artist first solo album, Piano Reflections, rose instantly to No.1 in the UK charts last year, catapulting him into the biggest-selling classical breakthrough artist of 2014 in that country. His second album, Piano Encores, released earlier this year, won equal acclaim from the critics. and quickly became a hit.
Ji Liu was born in Chine in 1990 to a family very interested in music, his mother played guitar and his father the trumpet but were not professional musicians. Ji Liu started playing the piano at the age of 3 and, at the tender age of 13, he won an international competition to perform a recital at the Carnegie Hall in New York, that became critical juncture in his life, for he moved to Europe to devote himself entirely to music.
Having initially studied piano and conducting at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, Ji Liu went on to study piano with Dmitri Bashkirov at the Escuela Superior de Musica Reina Sofia in Madrid, and with Christopher Elton at the Royal Academy of Music in London. The Tabor Foundation generously supported the young artist throughout his studies. His first concert appearance in Monaco, in a program including pieces from Rameau, Debussy, Saint-Saëns and Chopin, is being made possible through a joint collaboration between the Tabor Foundation and Ars Antonina, the Monegasque association which specializes in promoting outstanding young musical talent, and which over the past thirty years has introduced many new artists to the Cote d’Azur who have gone on to have distinguished careers.
Over the past few years Ji Liu’s life has been a whirlwind tour of performing concertos with the leading orchestras of the UK, in the most renowned concert halls and festivals, including the Barbican Centre, Royal Festival Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Wigmore Hall, Royal Albert Hall and BBC Proms.
The recital in Monaco promises to be an appealing program that will enable to showcase Liu’s truly outstanding talent, that Ars Antonia believe is destined for a great career.
