Best films in competition selected by illustrious jury
The Jury of the 69th Festival de Cannes, presided by George Miller, revealed the names of the talented winners during the Awards Ceremony on Sunday, May 22, 2016. Laurent Lafitte welcomed the prize-givers and winners onto the stage of the Grand Théâtre Lumière, while music was playing in the background and in front of a star-studded audience.
The illustrious members of the Jury this year were: Arnaud Desplechin (Director), Kirsten Dunst (Actress), Valeria Golino (Actress, Director, Producer), Mads Mikkelsen (Actor), Laszlo Nemes (Director, script writer), Vanessa Paradis (Actress, Singer), Katayoon Shahabi (Producer) and Donald Sutherlnad (Actor).
Famous hear-throb American actor, Mel Gibson, had the honor of awarding the Palme d’Or to the best of the 21 films in Competition. The French actor, Jean-Pierre Léaud, received an honorary Palme d’or for his collected works from Arnaud Desplechin.
The feature film I, Daniel Blake by Ken Loach, Palme d’Or, was screened at the end of the Awards Ceremony closing the 69th edition of the prestigious and glamorous Festival.

Award for Best Director Ex-Aequo

The drama tells the story of a family that lives in a small Romanian town, where everyone knows each other, and focuses on parenting and a powerful father-daughter relationship. The two-minute sneak peek doesn’t have subtitles but you can get the intensity and distress that the director was trying to achieve.

The Jury of the CST has awarded the VULCAN AWARD OF THE TECHNICAL ARTIST to: SEONG-HIE RYU, for the artistic direction, with great inspiration, for the movie The Handmaiden/Agassi by PARK Chan-Wook.
