Spotlight on women
The theme for the 7th Edition of the Monte-Carlo Woman of the Year 2018 was “Women and Sports”, an event created in 2012 by journalist Cinzia Sgambati-Colman, and sponsored by Walgreens Alliance Boots.
H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco welcomed the accomplished award winners at the Palace in a special audience, accompanied by Cinzia Sgambati Colman and Ornella Barra Co-Chief Operating Officer WBA, and sponsor of the Monte-Carlo Woman of the Year Award.

The names of this year’s winners were unveiled during a Gala ceremony in the Salle D’Or of the Fairmont Monte-Carlo on Monday, May 14, 2018, a truly moving event where highly accomplished and caring women were put in the spotlight, for their achievements and solidarity actions towards other fellow human beings.
They are: Géraldine Rey (France) Monte-Carlo Woman of the Year 2018; Yelena Isinbaeva (Russia) Monte-Carlo Woman of the Year 2018 for Monaco and Special Award to Isabelle Henchoz (Switzerland).
Géraldine Rey was elected winner of the Monte-Carlo Woman of the Year Award for her contribution to facilitating the development of women in auto sports. She has provided positive help in disadvantaged areas of the world. Géraldine and her father founded the Roses of Sands Trophy in Morocco, the first only female rally, that draws upon women’s competitive essence and tactical thinking, coupled with esprit de corps and fraternity, while offering assistance to other women and children all along.
Russian born and Monaco resident, Yelena Isinbaeva, pole vault champion, received the MC Woman of the Year Monaco Award. Yelena created a Foundation that aims to helping children in need as well as identifying and supporting new talented athletes. She proudly holds the title of Champion for Peace from the Peace and Sport foundation.
Isabelle Henchoz received the Special Award for Woman of the Year, for dedicating her life to helping others, and facilitating the practice of sports for disabled people.
At the end of a interesting evening, the President of the Woman of the Year, Prix Monte-Carlo, announced that the theme for the next edition will be “Women, Art & Science”.
