Monegasque driver to promote sports values
The exceptional Monegasque Formula 1 driver Charles Leclerc was selected by H.S.H. Princess Charlene to become Ambassador of The Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation, joining other well-known sportive celebrities. Leclerc thus becomes the 17th ambassador among high level sports people such as tennis pro Novak Djokovic, race car driver Jenson Button, swimmer Dara Torres, skier Alexandre Bilodeau, free diver Pierre Frolla, to name a few. “I am deeply touched that Charles Leclerc makes a commitment to My Foundation as new Ambassador. Young and talented sportsman, he shares the values of sport that are dear to me”, said Princes Charlene.
Created in 2012 the Foundation’s mission is to promote the benefits of sporting activities, teach children and adults the value of basic swimming expertise, water safety, first-aid and drowning prevention skills, while fostering national and international amateurs ports competitions. The Foundation is equally involved in communicating the values of sports, respect for oneself and others, determination and teamwork, with the firm believe that sport is a tool contributing to the wellbeing and development of children.
Charles Leclerc discovered the Foundation when he participated in the Riviera Water Bike Challenge last June, one of the fundraising sportive events organized in Monaco, joining many other top athletes. The young pilot will be the perfect spokesperson to diffuse the action of the association and take part in awareness events when he travels around the world, competing onboard a Ferrari starting in 2019.
Monegasque pride joins Ferrari
The 21-year-old Charles Leclerc currently drives in F1 for Scuderia Sauber-Ferrari. He won the GP3 Series championship in 2016 and the FIA Formula 2 Championship in 2017.
He made his F1 debut in 2018 for Sauber, a team affiliated with Ferrari, where he was art of its driver academy. Leclerc improved the finishing position of Sauber in the constructors’ championship from last to eighth, being the highest ranked of the two drivers in the team. Leclerc has agreed on a contract with Ferrari for the 2019 season where he will be replacing Kimi Raikkonen to team up with German driver Sebastian Vettel.
Charles embodies the values of the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation, showing great professionalism from an early age, coupled with hard work, dedication and commitment to excellence. He will not only be an ambassador for Her Foundation, but by extension an ambassador for the Principality.
