F1 drivers racing on the football field!
The 77thedition of the Grand Prix of Monaco from May 23-16, 2019, is the 6thstage of the 2019 FIA Formula One World Championship, and this year it will be even more special, as they will be celebrating its 90thanniversary since the first edition on April 4, 1929.
But just before the start of the Grand Prix F1, Mauro Serra, the Executive President of the A.S. Star Team for the Children, invited world-known celebrities from the F1 and motorsports for the traditional charity football match. Once again high-level sportspeople said present in spite of their very charged calendar, to participate in the 27thedition of this solidarity match, opening the festivities around the Monaco Grand Prix, on Tuesday, May 21 at Stade Louis II.
Before the start of the match, the public and players joined Prince Albert in respecting a minute of silence in honor of Niki Lauda who had passed away this Monday at 70 years old, and Pietro Biaggi father of pilot Max Biaggi.
The ceremonial kick off was at 19:00 by the British Motorsport driver Susie Wolff, currently head of the Team Venturi in Formula E, and Austrian skier Elisabeth Gorgl. The live football match was broadcast on Sky Sports F1 HD and all TV channels of Sky Sport offline.
After the official welcome of H.S.H. Prince Albert, it was the turn to the official teams to enter the field, for a photo session and National Anthems. Prince Albert for the AS Star Team and Felipe Massa for the F1 Drivers Team exchanged pennants before kick off.
The Pilots Team
The Drivers Team, former and present, counted with Carlo Sainz Junior (McLaren), Monegasque hero Charles Leclerc who recently joined the Ferrari Team, Italian Antonio Giovinazzi running under the colors of Alfa Romeo Sauber F1, Formula-E driver Felipe Massa, Pierre Gasly (Red Bull), Mick Schumacher son of Michael, Robert Kubica, Daniil Kvyat, Ezio Greggio, and many more. The AS Star Team lead by Prince Albert
While the A.S. Star Team, lead by no other than Prince Allbert II, Honorary President of the association, had in their effective former F1 driver Mark Webber, Flavio Roma, Ezio Gianola, Sonny Anderson, Pierre Casiraghi, Louis Ducruet, special guests Jacques Villeneuve, Alain Prost, Jean Alesi, Ezio Greggio and Suzy Wolf. Throughout the whole friendly match, good humor and camaraderie reigned on the football field in front of an enthusiastic audience cheering for the two teams.
The A.S. Star Team for the Children claimed victory for the third year in a row! Prince Albert took the trophy home, proud that his team won three years in a row!
Funds to benefit Save the Children International
This friendly sporting gathering based on conviviality and good humor comes first on the final result.
All the funds raised on this occasion will be donated in full to a charity that cares for children in difficulty around the world. Prince Albert selected « Save The Children International », and AS Star Team for the Children will assist a child on behalf of each player participating in the match, a truly unique project. AS Star Team players will correspond with one of the children benefiting from the help in order to create a true bilateral friendly relation.
