On the road to the Olympics
The newly created Monaco Rugby 7s (MRS) had an honorable debut reaching the quarterfinals and finishing in 7th place, in the Super Sevens this past Saturday, February 1, 2020 in La Defense Arena in Paris. The Monegasque 7-a-side rugby team competed alongside French Barbarians and Top 14 clubs.

French Barbarians 7s 33 – 28 Monaco Rugby 7s

The MRS professional team, partly supported by Frédéric Michalak, and created in October last year, aims to be the engine of an Olympic dream. In the Principality, better known for its Grand Prix F1 legendary circuit, rugby stands straight there with ASM rugby, which is currently fighting in Federal 3.
The professional team, built on the model of the Barbarians with its selection of players, is also an association with a budget of 3 million euros per year and chaired by Emmanuel Falco. But it is above all the starting point of a very ambitious project: “The motivation is to one day have a national team for the Olympic Games”, according to Frédéric Michalak.
The mission of the Monaco Super Sevens is to promote rugby locally. With Prince Albert II as honorary president of the club, it became a state project. The Monaco Rugby 7s confided to Paul Albaladejo, former French rugby XV & Sevens, to write the first page of a new chronicle of Monegasque rugby.
