Russian wins his first Masters 1000 trophy
The 5th seeded Rublev turned the tables from 4-1 down in the deciding set to defeat 6th seeded 19 year-old Danish Rune 5-7, 6-2, 7-5 after a one hour 34 minutes battle on Court Rainier III of the legendary Monte-Carlo Country Club.
The 25-year-old Russian claimed the biggest win of his career, upping his moral heading into next month’s Roland Garros in Paris.
After his victory Rublev said: « I remember the previous finals and when I was losing I thought I’d have no chance and mentally I was going down. »
“But today I thought, ‘Just believe until the end’, and this is what I was trying to do in the third set, hoping I would have an extra chance to come back and what a way to do it.”
« I hope soon there will be peace in every country. » Andrey Rublev
