Peter Sagan at BEKING Monaco November 26, 2023

Responsible mobility

Peter Sagan, the multiple cycling world champion will close the final season of his road career in Monaco in the name of responsible mobility, sport and charity. I personally believe the word sustainable has been overused, so I rather redefine it as responsible.

Peter Sagan has announced his participation in Beking on 26 November in Monaco, where he will celebrate the end of an incredible road career by sharing special moments with fans and the young champions of tomorrow.

« I think it is important to give people the opportunity to share a safe time together on the bike,” explained the renowned world champion. “Beking makes this possible. Riding on the Monaco circuit is indeed a pleasant and enjoyable moment to spend together”.

Sagan, who next year will return to another of his great loves – MTB (Mountain bike) – also spoke of the fundamental role of this event: educating children about cycling culture. Developing the right attitude and approach to the perfect means for a responsible future is becoming something of a natural trend.

« There is, of course, a different sensitivity about riding a bicycle now than when I was a child,” he went on. “For us it wasn’t just a mode of transport, it was like playing. Today, children have a lot and it is up to us to guide them towards a nature-friendly and sustainable lifestyle. But we have to do it with the awareness that the road belongs to everyone and that the rules must be respected. Beking is a good opportunity to give them a fun and educational experience.”

Learning while playing

From the village to the mascot, through gymkhanas and educational activities, there are many interactive moments that will also involve families, bringing them closer to cycling not only as a sport, but also as fun and a means of contributing to social change.

« It is not necessary for children to take up the sport in order to make a career out of it,” underlined Sagan. “Cycling is a way to collect good memories and be with friends. Parents have to be open to it and know how to introduce it in the right way. Beking has a lot to offer in this respect. Of course, the infrastructure has to follow the trend and it has to become more and more of a natural habit. I would like to witness this change, together with some of my colleagues, whom I look forward to meeting again in Monaco. As public figures, it is up to us to set an example, and the good thing is that there will be so many of us in Beking to support this education and sustainability project.”

Cycling teaches teamwork, in racing as in life, and the champions will come together on Sunday, November 26, united by the same intention to help and raise awareness for the noble causes the event supports.

“If I had to tell a friend to join me at Beking,” Peter Sagan jokingly concluded. “I would tell them to sign up for the pro-am first so I could beat them! All joking aside, this is an event where some of the best athletes in modern cycling get to share a day with their fans and their children. A carefree time, because that’s what sport is all about.”
