Monegasques maintain their position in Davis Cup Group II
Monaco defeated Egypt in the Davis Cup play-offs that run from July 15-17, 2016, played on their turf at the legendary Monte-Carlo Country Club, succeeding to maintain their position in Group II, Euro-Africa zone.

Prince Albert joined Elisabeth-Anne de Massy, President of the Monegasque Tennis Federation, her daughter Melanie Antoinette de Massy, Zeljko Franulovic, Director of the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters, and other loyal fans in the tribunes to encourage the players. The flags of the two countries were flying at half-mast in honor of the victims of the recent tragic incident in Nice.
The Monaco armada led by captain/player Guillaume Couillard, confronted a higher ATP-ranked team from Egypt, but fought hard and succeeded to win one singles on Friday and the doubles on Saturday, leaving Sunday to define the winner, when Benjamin Balleret clinched to victory for a final score of 3-1 with the fifth match not played.

In the World Group Great Britain beat Serbia to meet Argentina who won over Italy, to meet in the semifinals in September. France won over the Czech Republic to meet Croatia, who defeated USA, in the other semis.
The last four will meet September 16-18, 2016, to define which teams will be in the finals.
